How to Care for Quartz Countertops

Posted by & filed under Quartz Countertops.

One of our specialties here at Imperial Counters is quartz countertops. Cottage Grove homeowners love this durable and beautiful engineered stone, and we are also big fans of it! When you have these counters installed in your home, there are a few ways you can keep it looking great for a long time. Here are a few of our favorite tips.

Quartz countertops are so popular because they are one of the most durable types of counters available today, and they come in a huge variety of colors and patterns. So you are always sure to find the perfect one to match your home’s décor and your own personal taste. To keep your quartz countertops looking their best, make sure you wipe them down with water and a soft cloth at least once a day. For everyday spills and messes, just be sure you clean them up as soon as possible after they happen.

If you spill something on your quartz countertops and it is difficult to wipe up for some reason, just use a nonabrasive sponge or cleaning pad. Rub at the spot gently and it should come right up. Just be sure you do not use steel wool (Brillo) or anything that could possibly scratch the surface of your quartz countertops.

While quartz countertops are heat and scratch resistant, we still recommend that you use a trivet and cutting board for hot items or for when you want to cut something on your counters. Taking a few simple precautions like this one can help ensure your new quartz countertops look good for as long as possible.

A few cleaning products to avoid include bleach or any cleaning chemical containing bleach, cleaners with a high pH level like oven cleaners and solvents or other powerful chemicals. You should also be sure to keep permanent markers off of your quartz countertops too. You will never need to wax or reseal your quartz countertops either. Your quarz countertops should stay nice and shiny without any help from special waxes or sealants.

With a few small tasks on your part, your new quartz countertops could stay looking great for many years to come. This is one of the many reason quartz countertops are a great investment!

How to Care For Your Laminate Countertops

Posted by & filed under Laminate Countertops.

Imperial Counters specializes in installing laminate countertops in Woodbury, and we here at Imperial Counters are often asked for recommendations on how to best care for and clean them after they have been installed. Here are a few of our tips on how to keep your new laminate countertops looking as good as new.

Caring for and cleaning your new laminate countertops is very easy. Because they are nonporous, bacteria and germs cannot get into the countertops themselves and linger and cause health problems. So you never have to worry about disinfecting them. All you need to keep laminate countertops clean is warm water, a soft cloth and a mild soap. Simply wipe them down any time something spills on them and that is all you need to do.

If you do somehow end up with a stain on your laminate countertops, do not worry! Stain removal is a fairly easy process that involves a 3:1 ratio mix of baking soda and water. Spread the mixture over the stain, let it dry for about three to five minutes and then wipe it away. You do not need to scrub it. As a matter of fact, if you try to scrub in this mixture, it could cause more harm than good by scratching the surface of the countertops. Just leave it alone and then gently wipe it away after a few minutes are up.

Just be sure to keep certain liquids away from your laminate countertops. For example, drain cleaners can permanently damage your countertops, so just be sure not to use drain cleaner around your countertops if you can help it. And if you do need to use drain cleaner, be sure to lay something down on top of your countertops to protect them in case you accidentally spill the cleaner.

Laminate countertops are a great addition to any home. They are easy to care for and maintain, and with minimal effort on your part, they will continue to look great throughout the years. This makes them an excellent choice for families of all shapes and sizes. Plus, they are a great choice for kitchen of all styles because laminate countertops come in such a variety of colors and patterns.

Choosing New Countertops: The Many Benefits of Granite

Posted by & filed under Granite Countertops.

When you are remodeling your home, you are probably giving a lot of thought to the countertops you want installed. Countertops are one of the most important features in your kitchen, so you want to be sure you choose the best countertops for your St Paul home. One of our favorite materials for counters is granite, and here are a few reasons we love this natural stone so much.

When it comes to countertops, granite is one of the most durable and long-lasting materials on the market today. Granite does not depreciate in value, and they can add value to your home, which is a huge advantage if you are thinking of selling it any time in the near future.

Granite is also unique. Did you know that no two slabs are exactly alike? So that means your countertops will not look like anyone else’s. Yours will always be unique to your home and your own personal style and tastes. It comes in a huge variety of colors and patterns too, so you never have to worry that you won’t find the exact shade or pattern that you want. Granite countertops are an aesthetically pleasing addition to your home. They are a great way to add a sense of luxury and elegance to your home without breaking the bank.

These types of countertops are also great for families of all sizes. Because they are so durable, they are burn, heat, stain and bacteria resistant. Cleaning and maintaining them is a cinch! You just have to wipe them down with a mild, non-abrasive soap and a warm wet cloth. Certain types of granite countertops do not even need to be resealed!

The fact that they are bacteria resistant is a huge bonus to those who do a lot of cooking at home. So you can prepare raw meat for cooking and not have to worry about the bacteria remaining on your countertops. You could even cut the meat on your granite if you want to, but we do not recommend this. You could dull your knife blade!

As you can see, these countertops are a great option for those who are looking for beautiful and unique countertops.

How to Keep Your Formica Laminate Looking Good

Posted by & filed under Laminate Countertops.

Formica laminate is an affordable option for Cottage Grove homeowners that are looking for a budget-friendly way to remodel their kitchen. This type of laminate countertop is one of the best on the market today, and it is hugely popular among homeowners looking for a cost-effective way to get new countertops that will look good for years to come. Here are a few tips on how to keep your Formica laminate looking as good as the day it was installed.

Be Gentle

Your Formica laminate will last for a long time if you refrain from chopping, cutting, slicing, hammering or pounding on it. If you cut vegetables, fruit or other food on the surface of your Formica laminate, use a cutting board. Try to avoid sitting or standing on the countertops too. Also, you don’t want to slide ceramics or other abrasive objects across the surface of the counters. This might cause the surface to scratch or it might cause premature wear.

Use Hot Pads

When you want to place a hot pan or dish on your Formica laminate, be sure to use a hot pad or trivet. If the countertops are exposed to a hot material for a long period of time, it could cause the laminate to separate from its core material. This will help keep the surface from scorching and will help your laminate countertops enjoy a longer life.

Wipe Up Spills

If something spills on your Formica laminate, take the time to wipe it up as soon as possible after it happens. This is especially important if the spill happens near the seam of the countertop. If water or another liquid gets in there, it can eventually cause the countertops to split. Just wipe up the spill using a non-abrasive cloth. You can also use a mild soap for tougher-to-clean spills.

Use the Right Cleaner

A mild soap or detergent is your best bet for cleaning up spills. Just be sure you don’t use a cleaner that contains sodium hypochlorite, acid or alkali. Cleaners to avoid include tub and tile cleaners, chlorine bleach, lime scale removers, oven cleaners and metal cleaners. Some type of all-purpose cleaner is usually a good choice. Be sure to use a dry or damp soft cloth too.
